Happy Friday everyone. Here are the latest happenings in room 209.
We kicked off this week by celebrating the International Day of Peace. Students signed peace t-shirts, participated in peace activities with special guests, and helped their first grade buddies assemble a puzzle of peace. Also, students walked to Lake Middle School on Thursday and participated in a Peace Celebration. They were able to hold a peace torch that has been all over the world and held by leaders like Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa!
On Peace Day, parents and students came together to put on an amazing sale of Pulseras. Students are selling these Pulseras to raise money for kids in Nicaragua. Here is the project:

In writing, students are completing their Rosa Parks narratives. We will be wrapping up our first unit on narrative writing, and moving into informational writing next. I have been able to share these pieces of writing with many parents, and am still working out the bugs with a few parents. If you would like to have access to your student's writing, please let me know.
Our Unit of Inquiry is also coming to a close. Next Friday, October 2nd, students will be presenting their research about groups who have had their rights violated in our Rights Rally. We would love to have you join us at 2:15 for the rally and presentations. If you are unable to attend, I would encourage you to have your student give their presentation to you at home, or at least show you their project.
Have a wonderful weekend, and check out the upcoming dates below.
